Well so far 2009 has been off to a pretty good start. I'm on my Podiatry/Wound Care rotation this month. I've been able to do some pretty good cases in Podiatry so far this month, but wound care has been quite interesting. Seeing patients with frostbite and patients missing skin over the whole front portion of their lower leg and you can see the muscle and tendon underneath...yikes! Also, I've been going down to an old hospital downtown with my attending....and let me tell you, never EVER let your family member end up there!! The nurses alone would scare you away....but their patient population....sooooo sad!!! Majority of them are intubated and practically comatose...only staying alive b/c their family won't pull the plug just so they can keep receiving the pts checks each month....sickening I say!! They have pressure ulcerations pretty much everywhere their body touches the mattress and these wounds are more than likely NEVER going to heal...for many reasons A) the nurses never turn the patients like they're supposed to B) these pts are pretty poor nutritionally C) the worst of the worst wound care products are the only ones available to the pts (that's just naming a few reasons!)

Anyhoo....on to less sad stuff....
My sister is in Africa!!! Yep I can't believe it either! She went there with a friend from New York to hike Kilimanjaro.....she should be on Day 4 of the hike and 4-5 more days until they summit at around 19,000 feet. I guess so far they are doing well....they should be around 14,o00-15,0000 feet now and are handling the high altitude and thinning air well. She has a global phone and has been texting and she called Randy today to let us know how they were doing. Kim will be really upset if they're unable to summit...but we're keeping them in our prayers and hopefully they will summit successfully.....can't wait to see the pictures!
AJ and I would love to travel...but unfortunately we have a very long time to wait to do that!! :(
So for now we are busy playing with our new Wii and Rockband 2!!! Yep, we gave in and bought it all....I'm such a sucker for Rockband....let's just admit, it's glorified karaoke! I have been quite surprised though....I actually can get 100% when I sing.....goes to show how tone deaf the system is!! ha! But we're having fun with it and it's something new for now.....if anyone wants to come on over we'd love to have ya!!
